A Legacy of Hospitality in Bar Harbor

Our Story

At Island Place Bar Harbor, hospitality runs deep in our family. Owned and operated by Melissa Collier DeVos, a native of Bar Harbor, Island Place carries forward a tradition of warm, personalized service. Melissa was born and raised here, growing up in the lodging business with her family, who owned and operated the Bar Harbor Motel for over two decades.

Our Evolution

In 2012, Melissa took over the Primrose Inn Bed and Breakfast, and a few years later, she acquired and completely renovated the motel across the street, renaming it Primrose Place. In 2019, with the sale of the Primrose Inn, Melissa decided to rebrand Primrose Place as Island Place—same ownership, just a new name that reflects the local charm.

Today, Melissa and her dedicated team are proud to welcome guests from around the world, providing a comfortable, relaxing environment in the heart of Bar Harbor. We look forward to helping you relax, recharge, and enjoy everything this beautiful area has to offer.
